Q: Have Not Become Pregnant-Meds
WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET PREGNANT FOR 31/2 MONTHS NOW WITH NO
AVAIL. MY OVULATION IS NORMAL AND I AM CURRENTLY ON 200 MGS OF TOPAMAX,
200MGS LUVOX, 800MCG FOLIC ACID AND A PRENATAL TABLET PER DAY. I HAVE BEEN ON
THE LUVOX AND TOPAMAX FOR 3 YEARS. ANY IDEAS FOR ME?
Dear
Ms N' --
Luvox is in the class with Prozac, which is coming to be thought of as safe in
pregnancy, especially if one takes into account the risk of untreated
symptoms it may help control. Whether Luvox itself should be regarded as
safe, because of it's relatively close relationship to Prozac, remains an open
question. Topomax is to my
knowledge even less known in this respect. For example, check out this
thread from Dr. Bob, an astute psychiatrist. One of the
recommendations that emerges is to talk with a genetic counselor (you might be
able to find one, if your doctor doesn't know of one, by calling your local
hospital and asking there; often these are "pediatric" or OB-GYN
related specialists). Dr. Phelps
