Q: Which of These Meds?
Which meds do you prefer:
Lithium, depakote, tergretol,
trileptal, considering all the side effects. Thyroid especially?

Dear Lisa --
I pull out my "menu"
and go over it with my patient. Any one of those four might be a starting
point for a given patient, depending on her/his situation. I have stopped
using Tegretol except for my patients who've been on it for months, using Trileptal
instead (it seems to basically be the same drug, without some of the bigger
risks).
