Q: Headaches & Bipolar Disorder
After reading your website on Bipolar II Disorder, I think that my husband has
Bipolar II disorder. It all seems to make sense now to me. I am hopeful
that finally this is the answer to his problem after several years of
psychiatric therapy that have not helped. My question is the following:
Is constant chronic headache also another possible symptom of Bipolar II ?
He has this and they find no physical reason for them. The antidepressant helped
at the beginning (like it says in your article) but the headache is now back
constantly even though he is taking the same antidepressant that originally
helped. The headache makes everything worse of course. I would appreciate
hearing your answer very much.
Dear Ms. M' --
Headache and bipolar disorder are found together extremely commonly. Often
the headache is like a migraine, with nausea and even vomiting, and a need for a
dark, quiet environment. But these usually come and go, often when the
mood state shifts.
A steady headache may be something different. It
could be related to the bipolar disorder but it's not the common pattern, versus
that above.
