Q: Using Humor as a Medicine
I am doing a research project in my English 3 class and was wondering what your opnion on using humor as a medicine. If you could let me know that
would be great. Thanks a lot!
Dear Ms. D'--
My opinion about humor is that it is extremely underrated, underused,
underappreciated, never gets a decent wage for what it produces; never gets to
go to college on a scholarship, and is frighteningly absent in the
military. As for medicine, ah, maybe worse than the military, except for
the "gallows humor" you hear in the hospital when people are burned
out and exhausted, and that definitely is not the kind of humor you're talking
about. You've probably learned this already, but if not, try
entering
norman cousins humor
in a search engine like google. He was a strong
believer in the role of humor in medicine and those links (I just checked,
there are a lot) will lead to his work and others'. Fun on, kiddo.
