Q: Meds & Weight : Meds for BP II?
I have been on Lithium carbonate for about 6 months and have gained a
bunch of weight, I was wondering what other medicine could I take without
gaining more weight? My doctor doesn't want to change my meds. but I don't want
to be depressed over my weight anymore either?
She must understand what that is like being a women. And also if someone was
diagnosed with BP 2 would they take meds? Is so what would they take?
Thanks
Dear Elisabeth --
Try this
website,
go to the sections on treatment and treatment details, and read about how to use
Depakote (the usual main alternative) without gaining weight by watching out for
appetite increase; and about
Trileptal
and
lamotrigine,
and
maybe even
thyroid if you have a family history of thyroid problems or if your current
TSH is >3 (ask your doctor, and you may have to copy that section of the
website to bring in so she/he knows why you're asking and what you're wondering
about). And about non-medication approaches, though there's not really enough
there to rely on for most people (it is for use with medications, for
most people).
