Q: Progesterone in the Treatment of BP
I have been diagnosed with BP, DID, BPD, PTSD. When I was pregnant I
was off all medication and managed my moods quite well. for the most part they
evened out, not many extremes.
Some where i had read about pagesterone being helpful in maintaing moods. now I
can't find the information.
can pagesterone be helpful in Bipolor treatment.
Dear Terrye -
For everything I know on this topic, which is
precious little (but then not much else is known generally, you'll find as you
read), go to the section of my website on Hormones and Mood in the
diagnosis
details section of the material on bipolar II; and follow the links to the
Hormones
and Mood section generally, but look first at the stuff cited about Herzog
et al. When I learned their stuff, I tried progesterone in several
different forms for folks like you but didn't see much benefit at all.
Maybe it was the wrong form, or wrong dose -- psychiatry at least just doesn't
know yet how to approach using progesterone in this fashion, and there may be
much more to the story than progesterone alone. Good luck in your
search.
