Q: Depakote ER
My doctor had to take me off Trileptal because of a sodium problem.
The medicine was working very well. I've been switched to Depakote ER. What have
been your experiences with the new form of Depakote? The older kind had much
worse side effects for me.

I've been quite impressed with the new form as able to keep people from getting
side effects they might have gotten on the older version. E.g. people can
take 1000mg ER and much less commonly see the appetite that leads to weight
gain; and many more people can get to 1500mg ER without that appetite
thing (where with the older version, it seemed to me that few people, and few
women especially, could get to 1500 or even 1250 (which is a truer comparison
for the ER version in that at about 80-85% absorption for the ER version that
comes to about 1300 mg total)).
