Q: A Doc' Familiar w/BP & Thyroid?
My wife and I had read some articles about the possible connection between BP
and thyroid. We live in nj/ny metro area. My wife was wondering if
you knew of a doctor that is in this area that is familiar with this possible
connection.
There are thyroid problems in her family history.

Good you have your ears out for that connection, it's emerging as a more and
more of a part of this syndrome, at least for some people, and her family
history is indeed relevant in that respect. I don't know of particular doc's
following this lead except for two big research centers looking at it
(Pittsburgh and UCLA), so can't help you there. You could look for all the
doc's in your area who are bipolar disorder specialists using the
Harvard
database, then call 'em and ask if you could have a consultation (and in
the process, whether they're aware of some of the data on
thyroid and
bipolar disorder; the link is my essay on that in case you haven't come
across it yet).
