Q: Lamictal & Painful Lymph Nodes
I have been using Lamictal only with good effect. Occasionally I get
painful lymph nodes in my armpits or groin lasting several days to a week. What
is the significance of this ?
Thank you.
Dear Mr. G --
Haven't heard of that one yet from my patients. Swollen lymph nodes is
listed as a "rare" side effect of lamotrigine, but intermittent
wouldn't make sense that way. However, a friend of mine says
"medications are guilty until proven innocent". In your
case, with the improvement you've seen, it would be a shame to have to
stop. You can make a case to continue, or stop; but your doctor should
be very aware of what's going on and help you decide. If I was
going by strictly medicolegal advice-giving, I'd just tell you "oh,
that's a side effect, you have to stop" -- so be sure to discuss
the risks of continuing with your doctor.
