Q: Have Anxiety Disorders & Meds
I have been diagnosed with Bipolar II, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, OCD, Panic Disorder, Major Depression and PTSD.
I am on 900 mg. of Neurontin, 500 mg. Depakote ER and 45 mg. of Buspar a day. I
have been having frequent panic attacks and severely nervous. I told my
psychiatrist that the Buspar was not keeping me calm. I am tense all of the
time. She told me she would take me off the Buspar and not replace it with any
anti-anxiety medication.
She said I have alot of stressors and would just have to get used to it and talk
it out in therapy. I am in therapy but it can't possibly take away all of this
tension.
My question is with my anxiety disorders background, have you ever heard of a
doctor taking a patient of all anti-anxiety medications and leaving it like
that?
Thank you very much.
Beth
Dear Beth --
With that list of diagnoses, I'd be a fool to tell you what to do (i.e. it's
clear your situation is complicated). It sounds like you're upset with
your doctor and that you feel your anxiety symptoms are not being taken
fully into account with the decisions about medications. Maybe a place
to start would be to review how
anxiety
disorders like yours relate to bipolar disorder. I think you might
find a thought or two of mine therein relevant to your situation.
