Q: No Improvement in Sis's Condition
My sister has been diagnosed as having Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia
by several Psychiatrists. She had nine fits during the last 14 years.
One psychiatrist diagnosed as Tempotal Lobe Epilepsy. Her
MRI &EEG are ok. She is using tablets(Seizunil,Cap-Olanzia).But,there is no
improvement in her condition. i can send you her complete casehistory if
you want Please suggest her some treatment as soon as possible.
Dear FR --
Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and "bipolar disorder" look pretty
similar sometimes. For example, here is a new article that tries to figure
out whether Vincent van Gogh had
bipolar
disorder or TLE. But, except for lithium, which would still be worth
considering, the treatment for each is very, very similar. As you've
probably learned, in bipolar disorder we call the medications "mood
stabilizers", but most of the options are anti-seizure
medications. So generally someone like your sister would be given
mood stabilizer medications until the "fits" stopped happening, even
if her EEG is "normal".
