Q: Wife Takes Trileptal-Other Meds?
My wife is bipolar and is taking Trieptal. She has
been bounced around from doctor to doctor. At first they tryed Welbutrin. The
Triileptal helps a little but she can not take the two 300mg three times a day.
It really screws with her. So she takes one 300mg a day. I have been hering
about all kinds of new research on medication. Some not even available yet. Can
you help with information. I have read and read and try to stand behind her. I
love her very much but get frustrated.
Hello Mr. M' --
Good on ya' for trying to help, and to understand. I hope it might help
for you (both) to look over the entire list of mood stabilizer options.
Often if one helps some, but not enough, and the dose can't be raised due to
side effects, then adding a little bit of another, e.g. lithium at only
300-600 mg versus the usual 900-1200, can get all the symptoms controlled (and
that's the goal). If you haven't come across it yet, this general strategy
is described on my
website
on bipolar II.
