Q: what can you tell me about the numbing around the mouth and lips when
treated with oxcarbazepine?
Dear R' - This is a common side effect of another medication used in
psychiatry (topiramate), though I've not seen it yet with oxcarbazepine. I'd
want to do a blood chemistry test to check the level of sodium, because that
very frequently can go down with oxcarbazepine and that might cause this
sensation.
The only references I can find on Pub Med or Google refer to oxcarbazepine as
a treatment for nerve changes that can cause tingling. So whatever this
is that you're experiencing, looks like it's not common.
