Q: Antidepressants & Prolactin
My daughter was diagnosed with Bipolar III at age 10. I didn't put her on
meds until age 13. She is now 20 yrs old and had a baby dec 2004. She
did not nurse the baby but has been lactating the past eight months. After
finally doing a blood test she was told today her Prolactin was extremely high
and she could have a brain tumor. After doing some research I found data that
said antidepressents could be related as to the cause of the high prolactin
level. What I could find was a list of antidepressents that might be associated
with it. So I am asking what are some of the antidepressents that can cause a
high level of Prolactin.
Sincerely,
Dear Ms. M' --
Yes, antidepressants have been associated with increased prolactin. Here's a
current review article in case you need to point to some evidence:
Molitch.
