Q:  Has "lows" in the Winter & "highs" but Not Manic in the Summer

I am 68 years old. I am suffering from bipolar disorder (mostly depression) since early 30s but I did not know what was wrong with me. I suffered a heart attack at the age of 45. After that I was diagonsed by a doctor as "Manic Depressive". As I am a heart patient he did not give me Lithium but prescribed "Spectra (Doxepin)" for my depression. I gave up "Spectra" as I got no relief. Till to day I am suffering. Now it has developed into a pattern - 6 monthly cycle. In winter I am "low" but not "incapacitated", and in summer I am "high" but not "manic". Can you please suggest some treatment? With regards.

Dear UB—

You might start by learning more about "Mood swings without manic episodes".  This is my particular area of interest and much of my 300 page website is focused on that topic.  The link will take you to a basic explanation, with details about diagnosis and treatment.  Good luck with your learning --
